osteopathic medicine
We have strong osteopathic roots at Doctors Hospital. DHFM originally started as an AOA- accredited Osteopathic Family Medicine program more than 40 years ago. Osteopathy is interwoven into the way we care for our patients and how we educate our residents. All of our residents are Osteopathically Recognized once they join our program.
We are fortunate to have a faculty that support the osteopathic tenets of our program. We welcome all learners regardless of baseline OPP/OMT knowledge, including non-DO applicants. We have a pathway to grow, develop, and strengthen OPP/OMT skills at all levels.
OPP/OMT Clinical Application:
Residents are encouraged to apply OMT in any visit where it may be appropriate.
Residents may schedule dedicated OMT visits during their regular clinic.
We also have multiple dedicated OMT clinics that provide 1:1 learning experiences for residents with osteopathic attendings. These clinics are precepted by Dr. Eilerman, Dr. Comer, Dr. Jacobs, and Dr. Johnston.
Associate Wellness Clinic is an opportunity to learn OMT with Dr. Eilerman and treat OhioHealth Associates with OMT- everybody wins!
Multiple opportunities to practice OMT gives flexibility to patients and residents!
Curriculum for All Residents:
We have a rotating 18-month curriculum and focus on teaching our residents real world application of OMM skills in the busy Family Practice environment. This is achieved through:
Monthly OMM Labs: Case based presentations with hands-on OMM practice in our dedicated lab space.
Guest and faculty run labs
Collaboration with other DH programs
Resident favorite labs: Pediatric musculoskeletal OMM and OMM for the hospitalized patient
Osteopathic Journal Reviews
Billing and Coding Review
AOBFP Practical Board Preparation
Additional osteopathic learning opportunities for Non-DO Residents:
Required attendance at the "OMT for ALL" course at OUHCOM-Dublin in the fall of the PGY1 year
Covered resources - including the "CORE Concepts" textbook, as well as an OMT Board review course from the ACOFP (later in residency)
Monthly small group learning sessions with Dr. Eilerman during the first 9 months of residency to ensure baseline osteopathic knowledge and skills
