osteopathic medicine
We have strong osteopathic roots at Doctors Hospital. DHFM originally started as an AOA accredited Osteopathic Family Medicine program more than 40 years ago. Osteopathy is interwoven into the way we care for our patients and how we educate our residents. All of our residents are Osteopathically Recognized once they join our program.
We are fortunate to have a faculty that support the osteopathic tenets of our program. We welcome all learners regardless of baseline OPP/OMT knowledge (including MD applicants). We have a pathway to grow, develop, and strengthen OPP/OMT skills at all levels.
OPP/OMT Clinical Application:
Residents are encouraged to apply OMT in any visit where it may be appropriate.
OMT visits are scheduled with additional time and integrated into the regular clinic schedule to provide the most opportunity for patients and residents alike.
Curriculum:
We have a rotating 18-month curriculum and focus on teaching our residents real world application of OMM skills in the busy Family Practice environment. This is achieved through:
Monthly OMM Labs: Case based presentations with hands-on OMM practice in our dedicated lab space.
Guest and faculty run labs
Collaboration with other DH programs
Resident favorite labs: Pediatric musculoskeletal OMM and OMM for the hospitalized patient
Osteopathic Journal Reviews
Billing and Coding Review
AOBFP Practical Board Preparation
